• W4385398316 abstract "<h3>Background</h3> Reducing the number of unplanned readmissions is becoming a chief priority for both physicians and hospital administrators and may affect reimbursement in the future. <h3>Objectives</h3> To provide the rate and predictors of 30-day readmission in patients undergoing treatment for intracranial aneurysms.Methods: This is a retrospective study of 547 patients presenting for aneurysm treatment between 2017 and 2022. The primary outcome was the rate of 30-day readmission. Secondary outcome was predictors of 30-day readmission. <h3>Results</h3> The rate of 30-day readmission was 6.6% and the mean duration to readmission was 9.4 days ± 7.7. On univariate analysis, factors associated with 30-day readmission were drug use (OR:2.5, p=.08), smoking (OR:2.4, p=.05), antiplatelet use on admission (OR:0.4, p=.005), anticoagulant use on admission (OR:2.6, p=.04), open surgical treatment (OR:2.3, , p=.02), the use of flow diversion (OR: 0.4, p=.05) intra-operative rupture (OR:6.0, p=.04), disposition to rehab (OR:8.9, p<.001), and increasing length of stay (OR:1.1, p=.02). On multivariate analysis, increasing body mass index (BMI) (OR:1.1, p=.03), cancer (OR:6.8, p=.05), anticoagulation uses on admission (OR:4.7, p=.04), and increasing aneurysm width (OR:1.1,p=.09) were positive independent predictors of 30-day readmission. <h3>Conclusion</h3> In our study, risk factors for 30-day readmission were increasing BMI, cancer, increasing aneurysm width, and anticoagulation use. Future studies should focus on aneurysm dimensions and the use of blood thinners as the literature pertaining these predictors is still scarce.
