- W4385465921 abstract "Aerogels are microporous and permeable solids basically gel without the liquid component. They have a wide range of physical, chemical, and superficial properties that make them compatible with a wide range of applications. Humankind needs energy for its continuous growth. Oil and gas, coal, hydel or solar, all of these sources have some advantages and limitations. In this article, we will be reviewing the studies of aerogels that have helped us to cleanup oil spills in seawater and trap more thermal energy using PCMs embedded in aerogel composite. Both of these problems have haunted the energy sector for many years. Firstly, oil spills caused by oil transport in the sea damage the ecosystem and economy by depleting various forms of flora and fauna in the region. This in turn scarce sea occupancy of living creatures (fishes and other products) creating an acute shortage of food. It also contributes to major seawater pollutants. Invariably, this spill also contributes to a local reduction in evaporation from the sea, leading to localized draughts. Second, the heat energy storage through PCM has seen the challenge of low thermal conductivity resulting in lower diffusion potential of thermal energy ultimately causing delays in charging and discharging. Both problems are interconnected in one way or another as the answer is hidden in aerogels. The researchers have studied the properties of aerogels and have noticed that these two problems can be eradicated up to a large extent with certain kinds of aerogel materials. We have also compiled the properties of materials used and modifications done for over said applications." @default.
