- W4385727462 abstract "With fire at its core the Earths careful balance and biodiversity has been disrupted by planetary-scale urbanisation. Wildfires rage in the deserts of Africa, the rainforests of Australia and the icefields of the Arctic. Modern cities are not set up to cope with extended fires and associated dangers such as wind spread burning embers and smoke inhalation. Humanity’s relationship with fire is still being written. This has ancient roots where fire has a long history with First Nations that predates cities. Learning from Indigenous relationships with cultural burning emphasises knowledge and care, as well as reconnecting humanity with land and culture. In the context of hot cities in climate change, this chapter explores the relationship between cities and fire as both a heat threat and as a central artist and activist leitmotif, a catch cry for the urgent need for transformative action in the face of devastation." @default.
