- W4385955476 abstract "Emotions are a powerful component that affect people’s daily lives and individual functioning (Sepehrian, 2007). Emotional regulation plays a key role in controlling and adjusting feelings, and this conscious regulation plays a vital role in interpersonal relations. Attachment theory posits that primary relations with caregivers are crucial in understanding how individuals experience and regulate their emotions (Mikulincer & Shaver, 2019). The aim of the present study is to examine the effect of anxious and avoidant attachment dimensions on cognitive emotion regulation strategies in a cross-gender comparison. This study included 956 participants from France, comprising 718 women and 239 men aged between 18-87 years. Participants completed self-report scales, including the Relationship Scale Questionnaire for attachment and the short form of the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using t-tests, Pearson correlations, and stepwise regression with IBM SPSS Statistics software version 29. Anxious attachment dimension positively predicted maladaptive strategies for both genders, whereas avoidant attachment dimension was positively related to adaptive strategies, although it predicted acceptance solely for men. Consequently, the study’s findings suggest that CERS and the relational nature of attachment with the role of gender are crucial in understanding the complex associations among attachment, CERS, and gender." @default.
