- W4385962277 abstract "Upon completion, participants will be able to identify the factors associated with inadequate vitamin D status during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy among a sample of US women. Vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy has implications for both the mother and her offspring. More research is needed to identify high-risk groups. Objectives: To assess the factors which affect vitamin D status in a national sample of US pregnant women. A sample of 415 participants from the NCS who had 25(OH)D analyzed for quality assurance during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy were included in the current analysis. A multilevel-logistic regression model, individuals nested within census region (Midwest, Northeast, South, and West) used to assess for the risk of vitamin-D adequacy (as defined by a 25(OH)D≥50 nmol/L) with pre-pregnancy BMI, race/ethnicity, birth month, and household income as covariates. Vitamin D inadequacy was 34%, 17%, 11%, and 4% from the South, Northeast, West, and Midwest regions respectively. The mean vitamin D intake among participants was found to be 247.17 IU/day with a standard deviation of 198.36 IU/day. Participants from the South , had a higher proportion of African American and Hispanic women, and were more likely to be categorized as obese. African American and Hispanic women were 95% (95% CI: 0.01-0.22) and 76% (0.07-0.79) less likely of achieving vitamin D adequacy as compared to White women. Women who gave birth from July through September had 4.13 (95% CI: 1.22-15.91) increased odds of achieving vitamin-D adequacy as compared to other births. These results suggest that among the national sample of women in their 3rd trimester of pregnancy targeted supplementation may be necessary for these high-risk subgroups in the US." @default.
