Obesity account for 60%cases of diabetes ,40%hypertension and 20% coronary diseases and stroke. Obesity is silent killer world-wide and less focus on the problem so current study was undertaken with the Objective of 1) To nd out the prevalence of abdominal obesity by measuring waist circumference in adult population 2) To study socio-demographic determinates for abdominal obesity. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out among adult individuals (aged 18-55 years) belonging to Akola district of Maharashtra during July 2022 to December 2022. This district covers an area of 10,434 km2 with a total population of 965,280 individuals. All the individuals were residents of the rural and urban areas of Akola district. The study was a hospital based undertaken in the Nutritional OPD under the Community Medicine Department, Government Medical College Akola. The study was conducted July 2022 to December20222 for period of 6 months. The waist circumference was measured at the midpoint between the lower border of the rib cage and the iliac crest by using a exible inch tape. As per the WHO/IASO/IOTF (2000)1 the following cut off values of the waist circumference were used to assess the abdominal obesity for Male WC< 90cms – normal and WC >90- abdominal obesity for women: WC < 80cms – normal and WC > 80 cms- abdominal obesity. Result: The prevalence of abdominal obesity was 40%. The female respondent. was more obese (39%) as compare to male (10/%). The association between age group and obesity was observed in 36-45 years female respondent 14% (p=; 0.002*) this difference was found statically signicant and 46-55 years of age in males respondents 4.%, (;p= 0.04). Prevalence of obesity was much more in married individual females (p=0.01*) (and 0.02) males this difference was also statically signicant (p- <0.001). Conclusion: Obesity was more prevalent among female population in the study and responsible for various Non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension, so preventive and promotive strategy is needed to overcome this problems." @default.
