- W4386021155 abstract "Parkinson's disease (PD) and atypical parkinsonism are characterized by the progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN) pars compacta. Ultra-high field 7 Tesla (7T) MRI detects changes in SN signal and morphology, with increased precision in PD neurodegeneration in other brain areas, particularly in the basal ganglia and small brainstem nuclei, where 7T MRI might have a definite advantage in particular for targeting in the context of deep brain stimulation given the small size of these structures and the difficulty or impossibility of imaging them at a lower field (3T). Other contrasts include chemical shift imaging or sodium imaging, and magnetic resonance spectroscopy makes it possible to study compounds such as glutathione and cerebral neurotransmitters more easily. This chapter will review the advances of 7T MRI in parkinsonism." @default.
