This work investigates the p(6 × 2)-reconstruction of SrTiO3 as a possible cost-efficient variant of the photocatalyst. For this, we employ near-ambient pressure X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy comparing the (1 × 1) and p(6 × 2)-reconstruction of the SrTiO3(001) surface. We demonstrate the stability of the reconstruction in a water atmosphere. The importance of surface structures with low valencies, e.g., the trivalent pyramidal Ti-configuration, is emphasized; these give metallic surface states for optimal photocatalytic performance." @default.
