- W4386036595 abstract "The agricultural system in Africa, as in other parts of the world, is crucial to the political and socio-economic contours of society. Contemporary systems of agricultural organization, from production to marketing and consumption, including value chain dimensions, are critical areas of study in Africa. Equally significant is the systems of education that produce the necessary and required knowledge to sustain the agricultural organization system. This chapter focuses on digitalization and surveillance capitalism as they relate to agricultural and educational systems in Africa. The chapter interrogates the dynamic relationship between agriculture and education in the higher educational system in Africa and how that link can be mediated by digitalization. The chapter argues that digitalization, and its potential to break down boundaries, can foster the generation of new agricultural education and cross-national knowledge transfer to catalyze Africa’s development. However, digitalization and surveillance capitalism are not neutral entries in the development process. The challenges of digitalization for what we eat and how we think in Africa are addressed and viable suggestions are also presented." @default.
