- W4386052238 abstract "We read with interest the study conducted by Sreekanth et al 1 Sreekanth K.T. Thomas J.K. Babu M. Jacob T.J. Mathai J. Can we predict urethral length of boys? - An observational study. J Pediatr Urol. 2023 Jun 14; (00234-6): S1477-S5131 Google Scholar . They have created a nomogram and derived a formula for estimating the urethral length in boys. They have used a very elegant and simple method. This methodology as originally described by Kohler 2 Kohler T.S. Yadven M. Manvar A. Liu N. Monga M. The length of the male urethra. Int Braz J Urol Off J Braz Soc Urol. 2008 Aug; 34 (discussion 455-456): 451-454 Crossref PubMed Google Scholar helps them to conduct the entire study in a very cost effective and easy way. In a population with rapidly changing anatomical and physiological attributes, these formulas might lay the foundation of many further studies or be cited in textbooks and other research for years to come. Can we predict urethral length of boys? – An observational studyJournal of Pediatric UrologyPreviewAn additional knowledge about normal anatomy of urethra in boys can improve clinical outcome of any urological interventions. This will also reduce catheter related complications like intra vesical knotting and urethral injuries. At present there is no systematic data available which has studied the urethral length of boys. We have done this study to analyse the length of urethra in boys. Full-Text PDF Response to letter to the Editor re ‘Can we predict Urethral Length of boys? - An observational study’Journal of Pediatric UrologyPreviewWe appreciate the comments and appreciative remarks made on our article on the urethral length in boys. This study originated after a series of knotted urinary catheters from various institutions that prompted the question -”what is the normal penile length and why are catheters often inserted too far into the bladder?. The observation that the study design is better classified as a cross-sectional observational study is valid. The cases were selected prospectively and are a snapshot of appropriate children selected from a cohort of elective admissions who required foley catheters in our surgical ward.
