- W4386095503 abstract "According to Walter Benjamin, the idea of a classless society shows that Karl Marx “secularizes the notion of messianic time.” Messianic time is secular by healing with the justice that rebuffs ascription of fate to life-conditions. Messianic time renders transient any ascribed fate. Time is confined to no space and is controlled by no space. In this freedom from fate, time has a claim upon us; we can only dishonestly ignore it. Whereas some argue against Benjamin that past injustice is complete (over and done with, so to speak), messianic time redeems the past by showing victories to be somehow incomplete - that is, illusory in their completeness. Benjamin draws upon the motif of the Last Judgement to attest to the time that heals with the justice of release from imposed fate. Messianic time is the cosmos, the ineradicable experience, that convalesces with the happiness, which is also the justice, recognizing no fate." @default.
