- W4386190958 abstract "Photosynthetic functional traits, such as the maximum photosynthetic rate, the initial slope of the PI-curve at limiting irradiance, and the respiration rate in darkness define the response of benthic macrophytes to changing environment. These functional traits are used in ecological models of benthic macroalgae communities, and it is very important to know their actual values in order to obtain adequate modeling results. The main goal of this work is to study these parameters in experimental conditions for the most common macrophytes near the Crimean coast (Black Sea). These estimates were then applied in the model of a benthic macroalgal community to simulate the response of the shallow bay seaweeds to changes in total suspended matter concentration in water (TSM) during the hottest summer months. The response of macrophytes biomass to changes in water turbidity strong correlated well with the slope of the PI-curve. The simulations also show how the structure of the benthic macroalgal community depends on water transparency on scales from 2 months to a year." @default.
