- W4386224412 abstract "The increase in pollutants into the environment such as heavy metals, dyes, volatile organic compounds, pharmaceuticals, agricultural products (pesticides), personal care products, and industrial waste has been caused by the activities of humans and industries. Owing to the shortage of effectual expertise for appropriate disposal and management of these wastes, the health of the public is at risk since most of these pollutants are persistent and could lead to different forms of cancer and other diseases. Moreover, lifestyle and environmental factors for instance moisture and temperature have increased the spread of pathogenic microbes, some of which are resistant to first-line drugs. Therefore, it is imperative to find lasting solutions to these problems in order to achieve a sustainable environment. Although some conventional remediation methods have been used in the removal of these microbes and pollutants, they are not without techno-economic inadequacies such as elevated prices, inconsistencies, dearth of flexibility and their own ecological hazards for the immediate removal of metal-based pollutants, biological, inorganic, and pathogenic microbes and their secondary metabolites such as mycotoxins, which prevents wide coverage of environmental decontamination. Magnetic surfactants on the other hand are relatively cheap, have lower critical micelle concentrations, more effectively lower surface tension and can be recycled or recovered. This chapter highlights the use of magnetic surfactants, especially those made from graphene oxide or iron, and modified using substances such as Aloe Vera in the removal of pollutants and microorganisms." @default.
