- W4386236034 abstract "A serious decline in the standard of engineering education in the country is creating unemployable “Paper degree-holding engineers.” There is a continuous decline in the strength of higher education and the higher education institutions have registered only 37% strength. The main factors are: Acute scarcity of ‘Teaching Professionals (Gurus)’ and the abundance of ‘Teaching Employees,’ heavy directionless curriculum, stereotypical teaching without brainstorming, attractiveness of other than technical jobs, lack of motivation for start-ups, and poor projection of employment opportunities. This decline has occurred at a time when the engineers’ employers are facing new challenges due to globalization, offshore outsourcing, and the need to “move up” in innovation and technical expertise to remain competitive. Thus, there exists a demand for highly qualified engineering graduates. What makes engineering attractive is well known but institutions, employers, and government policymakers have turned a blind eye to the issues demanding resolution. Instead, beating around the bush has allowed the issues to reach a stage from where it seems very difficult to traverse on the highway of growth and development. “India is a country where students first become engineers and then figure out what they want to become.” The school level education is also falling short of expectations. The major shortcomings are lack of moral values, professional avenues, basic etiquettes, and possible outlets. This paper attempts to comprehensively highlight the limitations of the prevailing stereotypical academic system and “what can be done” with innovative ideas." @default.
