- W4386317144 abstract "This chapter introduces key values at stake in wildlife ethics, taking tigers as an example. We outline key instrumental values including consumptive use, nonconsumptive use (such as photography), and more indirect ecological values. We also examine, from a philosophical perspective, nonuse values such as option value, bequest value, esthetic value, and existence value. We discuss the ways in which some wildlife – like tigers – can be of disvalue, as well as of value, by threatening human lives and economic livelihoods. We consider different interpretations of intrinsic value, the idea of moral status (or moral considerability) and conclude by discussing strong and weak anthropocentrism, nonanthropocentrism, and Bryan Norton's “convergence” hypothesis." @default.
