- W4386317197 abstract "This chapter examines recent movements in wildlife management and conservation that push back against core theoretical tenets of the influential frameworks discussed in Chapter 7 (North American Model, “pest management,” and conservation biology), or at least significantly adapt them. We focus on (i) the growth of the environmental justice movement and its intersection with what has become known as “new conservation”; (ii) movements supporting the long history of wildlife management by Indigenous peoples; and (iii) the emerging “compassionate conservation” movement and the idea of wildlife mutualism. Besides presenting the origins and contents of these movements, noting that wildlife management and conservation movements shift in form and evolve over time, and can have different versions, we examine how they connect to various key values and ethical theories. These movements have quite different ideas about what matters in the management of wildlife and give different accounts of what justifies particular actions." @default.
