Their recognition is also a challenging one because of largely changing appearances and extremely complex pattern distributions. However, by applying the complementary properties of these two biometrics is giving a way to improve the recognition performance. The performance can be considerably improved by an efficient feature extraction approach. The paper offers a method Local Gabor Scale Average Binary Pattern (GSA-LBP) for extracting face features, gait features and integrate them at feature level for improved recognition rate. At first face features, gait features are got by a Gabor wavelet with 3 scales {0, 1, 2} and 6 orientations {0, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150}. Next the convolution operator is applied between the Gabor filter and the given image to obtain 18 Gabor magnitude images. The produced redundant and high dimension features of the input image is reduced by using GSA, where it is averaging the orientations (6) of Gabor matrices with same scale into a single mean image. Then the face, gait GSA features are enhanced by Local Binary Pattern (LBP) operator called (GSA-LBP). The resultant feature sets are normalized so that their values are in the same range and are concatenated at feature level. Next Eigen feature vectors followed by Fisher’s vectors are constructed by means of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) followed by Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) called PCA to LDA. The minimum distance between the fused feature vectors of face, gait training images and face, gait probe fused feature vector is computed using Euclidean distance measure for classification.
