The system's blood pump had previously been approved for use up to six hours, but this has been expanded to allow for longer usage by physicians who are assessing patients who require extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Diagnostic Nanotechnology for Respiratory Infection A startup from McGill University, Beeta Biomed, Inc., has developed a prototype diagnostic and molecular PCR test called QolorEX for detecting respiratory infections such as influenza A and B and COVID-19. The test device uses colorimetric detection of RNA to identify viruses from a saliva sample and injects light-excited hot electrons from the surface of a nanoplasmonic sensor to increase the speed of the test, reported Medscape.
