- W4386382893 abstract "The communicational dimension of theatre has been thoroughly discussed, whereas the theatrical dimension of communication has not attracted equal attention. However, the leaks between communication and theatre may, in fact, be mutual and bilateral. Such a hypothesis means that the synergy between the two could be rephrased in non-hierarchical terms. A rather solid, unbiased and objective theoretical approach, enabling a comparative analysis between theatre and communication is suggested by intermediality, as the latter delves both into media types, such as theatre performance and communication. More specifically, Lars Elleström (2018) put forward his medium-centered model of communication, an elaborate and fully developed diagram unfolding communication from an intermedial perspective (282, figure 5). On the other hand, Bentley’s definition of theatre (1965: 150), although minimal and straightforward, contains a certain latent diagrammatic quality. The two are made to conceptually and comparatively overlap, with the results of the process being observed and discussed, while common and distinct topoi revealed by this overlapping are scrutinized. The diagram is thus revealed as an an abstract and, at the same time, descriptive and performative methodological tool, facilitating the revision of established disciplinary hierarchical certainties." @default.
