- W4386385013 abstract "Empowerment is a process that challenges our preconceived notions about how things are and can be. It challenges some of our most fundamental beliefs regarding power, assisting, accomplishing, and succeeding (Page & Czuba, Empowerment: What is it. Journal of Extension, 37(5), 1–5, 1999, p. 1). This social process is paramount to effective followership. Followers participate in the leadership-followership process and actively collaborate with their leader to meet legitimate needs and particular objectives (Brumm & Drury, Leadership that empowers: How strategic planning relates to followership. Engineering Management Journal, 25(4), 17–32, 2013). Page and Czuba (1999) suggest that empowerment is multifaceted and assists individuals in gaining control of their own lives. Empowerment speaks to a higher purpose of followership. This chapter will explore empowerment as it relates to followership and those values that mold effective followers. It will unpack those values from the perspective of two biblical characters who exemplified excellent followership. It will also examine the lives and followership of Joshua and Elisha in the Old Testament, building from the books of Exodus and 1–2 Kings." @default.
