- W4386389528 abstract "The diagnosis, classification and extra articular manifestations of joint hypermobility syndrome are presented and discussed in this chapter. the hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSDs) are a group of clinical conditions related to jointJoint i hypermobility (JH) that are descriptive and of diagnostic exclusion. They are used mainly as alternative labels for patients with symptomatic JH who do not meet the criteria of a variant of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). The term “HSDs” may become the updated diagnosis for all individuals who meet the previous criteria for the hypermobile type of EDS or jointJoint i hypermobility syndrome (JHS) but do not correspond to the proposed criteria for hEDS. However, the term HSDs is used to identify discrete subtypes that fill the gap between asymptomatic JH and hEDS. A group of four different HSDs have been identified as components of the jointJoint i hypermobility spectrum. Musculoskeletal patterns related to JH include jointJoint i manifestations, which are highly variable and strongly related to modifying factors, such as gender, mechanical forces, personal habits, work activities, accidents and sports activities. The manifestations are causally independent of JH and may emerge at different ages. It follows that, such manifestations are not due to the underlying cause of JH and have secondary effects mediated by JH and other factors. Manifestations in other organs and tissues may occur in affected persons, particularly in the form of comorbidities related to JH, which are extra-articular manifestations. In these conditions the clinical manifestations do not meet the criteria for any of the different types of EDS and are not the direct result of the abnormal mechanics of JH. However, these factors exert a considerable negative impact on the quality of life of affected persons and their families." @default.
