- W4386656207 abstract "Biofuel is a product from biological sources such as food crops, oil extracted from vegetables and biomass from animal and microbial origin. It is a biological product, rather than a geological product (fossil fuels). Biofuel, as it is produced from renewable biological sources, is a renewable fuel source. Its types include bioethanol, biodiesel, biogas and bioethers. Biofuel is considered to be the need of the hour, as it is the greatest solution to the increasing energy consumption as well as for securing energy supply, for reusing wastes and residues as raw materials for its production, and, of course, for combating climatic changes. One of the ideal sources of biofuel production is microalgae. Microalgae, in general, are microscopic in nature. Unicellular algae are found in both fresh and marine water. They can be present in water column as well as in sediments. They are considered as a potential source of biofuel production, as they contain very high lipid content in the form of triglycerides and are easily produced in massive growth. This chapter deals with massive production of microalgae for biofuel production (as it is an ideal renewable resource), the parameters for production, downstream processing and purification. The role of genetic engineering in biofuel production and applications of biofuels are also dealt in this chapter." @default.
