In the evolutionary history of life, the role of phenotypic plasticity has recently been studied, and scientists have argued that the nonplastic life history of prehistoric and extinct organisms points further to the mismatch of the adaptive potential of old organisms and that environmental undulations likely expedited the extinction of several animals or created numerous living fossils. Prehistoric organisms such as spiders, predominantly attributed with phenotypic plasticity, have wide-open chances to traverse the trail of biological evolution. They are biologically competent enough to survive for long periods to become accustomed to microevolutionary changes." @default.
