- W4386702947 abstract "Owl monkeys are among the most widely distributed neotropical primate genus and are found in many types of natural and anthropogenic habitats. Through a systematic compilation of peer-reviewed and gray literature, we review owl monkey population densities and occupancy and detection rates, highlighting which factors may influence these characteristics. Studies of owl monkey density have been made in most range countries, and a variety of methods have been used by researchers. Although density estimates vary widely, 91% of studies found densities between 2.0 and 17.2 groups/km2. In the few studies that have tried to determine owl monkey occupancy and detection rates, altitude, tree diversity, habitat connectivity, and distance from human settlement were all found to be related to occupancy rates, whereas luminosity/moon phase was found to be the factor most related to detectability. We recommend that researchers take these factors into account when planning studies, to optimize effort and improve results." @default.
