- W4386712199 abstract "Political campaigns these days are not limited to rallies, and speeches to crowds and masses. In this context, social media have become an important tool for sharing information, influencing and engaging people in political activity. The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly been an important driver of this change and in many countries, at a time of public health emergency, it shifted election campaigns and public engagement to the Internet and social media. The pandemic demonstrated that unexpected and unpredictable situations can hamper both electoral campaigning and the organisation of general elections themselves. One example is the 2020 election in Poland that was to be held during the peak of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the election campaign, not only candidates agitated online, but also voter groups were involved in various forms of online activity. Due to the fact that voters abroad could only vote by mail during the 2020 Polish elections, representatives of this group were mostly active in digital space: mainly in social networks. The latter have become a platform not only for informing Poles about voting methods and procedures, but also for mobilising voters to cast their votes in the elections. The purpose of this chapter is to analyse the activity of voters abroad on social networks in the context of their electoral involvement along with their opinions on voting by mail. The analysis is based on an examination of the content (of an informative and mobilising nature) appearing in Facebook groups dedicated to the 2020 elections in Poland and an analysis of the opinions of Poles voting abroad on the issues (difficulties, advantages, etc.) associated with voting by mail." @default.
