- W4386764319 abstract "The widespread interest in smart ship technology has led to its growing maturity, making collision avoidance for different types of ships a pressing issue in maritime practice. To ensure navigation safety in the face of the new situation of mixed navigation of intelligent ships and traditional ships, it is necessary to consider the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs) convention. This paper proposes a multi-mode automatic collision avoidance method that utilizes radar-viewing windows. The process of radar collision avoidance is modeled after the four modes of human brain activity: negotiation mode, reaction mode, stress mode, and crisis mode. Different modes of ships have specific avoidance schemes. The collision avoidance actions taken by different types of ships in different modes were associated with the encounter stage of ships, forming a dynamic collision avoidance response mechanism under multi-ship information asymmetry. To obtain the optimal path for automatic ship avoidance in different modes, the artificial potential field method was utilized. The Douglas Peuker (DP)algorithm was utilized to optimize the path processing and generate collision avoidance paths that align with the maneuverability of the ship. The method was verified through static encounter scenarios, dynamic encounter scenarios, and mixed encounter scenarios. The results demonstrate that the ship can safely avoid other ships while adhering to the principle of COLREGs. The safety and effectiveness of the avoidance scheme are verified by the evaluation of avoidance behavior." @default.
