- W4386774964 abstract "Training health professionals usually means focusing on “what is wrong” with people for inherent reasons associated with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The new positive psychology scientific model, on the other end, is mainly interested in “what is right” with human beings; investigating and promoting what makes people emotionally resilient and healthy, harmonious, purposeful, and happy; and considering answers to the relevant question of “what makes life worth living.” Positive psychology brings forward knowledge in well-being and strengths, which can be useful, whether to support personal resilience of health professionals and/or to use with patients, clients, or service users. According to this branch of psychological science, individuals are encouraged to work with their inner strengths and endorse positive relationships to promote flourishing and the optimal functioning of people, groups, and institutions. Positive psychology offers an evidence-based approach to the connection between mental and physical health, taking into consideration the dialog between the negative and the positive of life; the relationship between the mind, the body, and the spirit; and the individual and the collective aims. Training in positive psychology is especially helpful to the ones who work with the most vulnerable health-wise. Additionally, it is relevant to prevent diseases or to deal with people with persistent and long-term health conditions who would prefer a nonpharmaceutical approach to increasing psychological well-being. Therefore, while educating health specialists, addressing issues through the lens of positive psychology can be a valuable complementary educational approach to the usual training. Health professionals can find the techniques that emerge from the more than 20 years of research in positive psychology a useful addition to their skills, both to support their own well-being and that of those they serve. Techniques such as savoring, optimistic and gratitude interventions, kindness boosters, strength-building actions, meaning-oriented interventions, appreciative communication tactics, or relational goods approaches involve activities and processes widely researched and have overwhelming pieces of evidence that suggest their effectiveness and efficacy. Overall, this approach can be considered one of the paths for the future of the education of healthcare professionals, since it contributes to a holistic view of the person and expands the potential of a preventive and promotional stance regarding global health." @default.
