Для Торопецкого уезда XVI в. характерен способ обозначения селений через обобщающие названия, что соответ-ствует «гнездовой» системе расселения. Это обстоятельство является фактором плохой сохранности исторической топонимии Торопецкого уезда в материалах XVIII–XIX вв. Результаты картографирования данных писцовых книг Торопецкого уезда XVI–XVII вв. отличаются низким про-центом локализованных топонимов от синхронных показателей по Твер-скому уезду и Тверской половине Бежецкой пятины. В итоге поселенче-ская структура Торопецкого уезда XVI – первой половины XVII в. может быть охарактеризована лишь на основании общей реконструкции куль-турного ландшафта по данным письменных источников без применения инструментов ГИС. Детальное исследование может быть проведено только на материале относительно полно локализованных скоплений по-селений. В настоящей публикации представлены результаты такого ис-следования области Дубна Торопецкого уезда. The article presents the results of the historical and geographical study of the Toropetsky uezd of the 16th-17th centuries with using geo-information technologies. The Toropetsky uezd of the 16th century is characterized by the des-ignating villages through generalizing names, which corresponds to the nesting settlement system. This circumstance is a factor in the poor preservation of the historical toponymy of the Toropetsky uezd in the sources of the 18th-19th centuries. The results of mapping these scribe books of the Toropetsky uezd of the 16th–17th centuries differ in a low percentage of localized toponyms from synchronous indicators in the Tver district and the Tver half of the Bezhetskaya pyatina. As a result, the settlement structure of the Toropetsky uezd of the 16th – first half of the 17th century can be characterized only on the basis of the general reconstruction of the cultural landscape according to written sources without the use of GIS tools. The detailed study is only possible on the material of relatively completely localized clusters of settlements.
