- W4386956470 abstract "The human microbiome affects, and is affected by, biocultural and physiological factors including nutrition, metabolism, immunity, and mental health. The gut microbiome plays critical roles in inflammation, which influences how tissues, organs, and bodies age. Need for assisted care is often triggered by skeletal-related and brain-related conditions that are influenced by the microbiome gut-bone and gut-brain axis, respectively. Microbiome-mediated factors such as diet, exercise, and social connections are involved in healthy aging, as observed among the longest-lived populations. Anthropologically informed research focusing on microbiota that signal, buffer, and mediate events to sustain homeostasis may provide insights into sociocultural factors that influence behaviors and exposures that contribute to observed phenotypes in health and aging. Located at the interface of the human genome-environment entanglement, the microbiome illuminates how complex ecosocial interactions and systematic inequities become embodied over the life course, producing situated biologies with implications for healthy aging and well-being in diverse environments." @default.
