- W4387014380 abstract "Generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) is a rare, chronic skin disease with recurrent flares. Several medications are approved for GPP in Japan, but no established treatment algorithm exists. This retrospective cohort study aimed to explore GPP treatment patterns in Japan. Included patients had newly diagnosed GPP (no historical diagnosis; ≥2 International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision code L40.1 diagnoses, January 1, 2016–August 31, 2021) and ≥1 year of follow-up in the Medical Data Vision claims database. Demographics and clinical characteristics were captured during the 12 months before GPP diagnosis. Outcomes were medications used, lines of therapy, and time to next therapy (TTNT). Main medications/therapies for GPP were apheresis/plasma exchange, etretinate, cyclosporine, methotrexate, apremilast, systemic corticosteroids, and tumor necrosis factor, interleukin-17, and interleukin-12/23 inhibitors; supplementary medications were topical, arthritis, and other oral medications. Among 434 included patients (47.5% male, mean age 57.2 years), multiple regimens were used; of those containing main medications/therapies, non-biologic-based regimens were more commonly prescribed in the first line of therapy (69.8%) than biologic-based regimens (30.2%), while biologic-based regimens were more frequently given in the fifth line (66.7% vs 33.3% [non-biologic based]). Of the medications prescribed to ≥10 patients, the most frequently dispensed oral medication (etretinate) and biologic (interleukin-17 inhibitors) were more commonly prescribed as combination regimens with supplementary medications than as monotherapy. Moreover, median TTNT was longer with combination regimens than monotherapy. Management of GPP varied, with non-biologics commonly prescribed in early lines. Most medications were given as combination regimens, which had a longer TTNT than monotherapy." @default.
