- W4387014877 abstract "Academic research has largely kept Latin America and other regions in the Global South mostly in the dark on current anti-rights movements’ narratives and tactics, as well as on the specific impact they have on democracy. This volume fills this gap by using a set of case studies to provide the first substantial theorization on anti-rights movements in Latin America in the past two decades. This introductory chapter first sets out concepts and definitions of right-against-rights mobilisations, and makes distinctions between the right-against-rights and other right-wing forces in the region and abroad. The notion of ‘rights’ and competition over them is examined. Mobilisation as opposed to movements is also discussed as relevant to understanding the right-against-rights. The chapter’s second section explores the regional context in which the right-against-rights mobilisations have grown in the past decades and their impact on Latin American democracies. The chapter then concludes with a summary of the case-study chapters included in the volume." @default.
