- W4387029277 abstract "The lacrimal fistula is an accessory or anlage duct communicating with the skin on one side and the canaliculus, lacrimal sac, or nasolacrimal duct on the other [1–2]. Lacrimal fistulas can be congenital or acquired following trauma or surgical interventions. Congenital fistulae originate either from the common canaliculus or the lacrimal sac. Direct endoscopy visualization and histopathological examination can help in determining the origin [1–5]. Ectopic fistulae can occur anywhere along the tract of the lacrimal drainage system [5]. Exceptionally rare reports of a lacrimal fistula extending from the ethmoidal air cells through the sac toward the skin, which was well-delineated with the help of a computed tomography-dacryocystography (CT-DCG), are known. The current chapter will discuss another exceptionally rare case of an ectopic lacrimal fistula in the glabellar region on the contralateral side of the midline. A large dilated lacrimal sac was noted on CT-DCG with a partly sequestered fundus traversing through the frontal process of the maxilla into the frontal bone, toward the glabellar region, and communicating with the external opening of the fistula. Combined external and endoscopic approaches were used to sever the connection of the fistula with the sac at the superior-most point. Complete excision of the long fistulous tract was ensured, along with the closure of the external wound." @default.
