- W4387038501 abstract "Strong electromagnetic fields can exist around high-voltage installations and apparatus such as substations and transmission towers, especially during fault conditions These can produce inductive, capacitive and conductive coupling to nearby metallic structures. Collectively these couplings are known as impressed voltages (IV), and they must be managed to prevent hazards where safety from the system cannot be achieved through circuit de-energisation. There is an elevated risk of IV during changes to an installation such as construction or maintenance activities. IV coupling methods are introduced together with the applicable safety limits. Available calculation methods are summarised, typical mitigations discussed and an IV case study is presented. The intention is to raise awareness of this important safety consideration and to share gained experienced." @default.
