• W4387052458 abstract "PURPOSE: Fitness test is important to assess physical and physiological profile of athletes in different sports. Assessment of test scores directly affect Talent identification and development (TID). The standard score(Z-score)and Total Score of Athleticism (TSA) are approaches for standardized evaluation of Athleticism. Z-score reflects the distribution of raw scores by converting them into scores that are far from the mean. TSA provides an idea of the relative level of athleticism by summing or averaging Z-scores from different tests. The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in Z-score and TSA of drafted and undrafted player from NBA Draft Combine tests within 2000 to 2022. METHODS: In the study, the Z-score and TSA of basketball players who participated in the NBA Draft Combine from 2000 to 2022 were sampled as subjects. The Z-score and TSA in this study was based on the calculation integrated by Anthony N. Turner. The Man-Whiteney U test was applied to investigate difference between drafted and undrafted players in Z-score and TSA. The correlation coefficient was measured by Kendall tau-b correlation coefficient(τ). Data was analyzed by SPSS. RESULTES: The difference in TSA score(Z = -3.633,P < 0.01) and ranking(Z = 5.638,P < 0.01) between drafted and undrafted players was statistically significant, and there was a statistically significant correlation among TSA score(τ = -0.083, p < 0.01),TSA ranking(τ = 0.130, p < 0.01) and draft results. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that TSA can effectively classify the level of drafted group and undrafted group, providing some reference for NBA draft.
