- W4387059892 abstract "Photovoltaic thermal (PVT) technology is drawing more and more attention in the context of the energy transition. Electrification of the heating sector by means of heat pumps run by carbon free electricity sources like photovoltaics is setting the ground for the interest. But data is scarce, how well compared to the existing heat pump system designs those with PVT perform. This article shows the real performance data of several PVT plus heat pumps systems. The identified seasonal performance factors (SPF) are in a range from 3,4 to 4,2 therefore between air source and ground source heat pumps. This article gives an insight into PVT technologies and collector designs and structures them according to application and operating temperatures. For the most conventional designs examples such as PVT collector prototypes from R&D projects at Fraunhofer ISE are presented and explained in detail. In addition, commercial products and manufacturers are listed along these categories, and the influence on the gross thermal and electrical yield is depicted based on Solar Keymark certified products and related data. The process of certification along thermal and electric normative procedures is presented in a comprehensive way showing current limitations and giving an outlook on most recent approach for enhanced procedures and specifications. Finally different system layouts are presented and examples from installations combined with a heat pump are given with their specific performances derived under continuous monitoring. The continuous monitoring and derived data are the enabler to discover the decisive influence of the system layout and dimensioning on performance indicators like e.g., operating temperatures of the PVT collectors over the year.
