- W4387062007 abstract "Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the primary cause of deaths worldwide. Even with the recent COVID-19 pandemic, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), for every death from COVID-19, there are at least three or four from CVD. Even though the severity of the CVD is known, there is a lack of prevention of its risk factors. Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) programs attempt to reincorporate people after experiencing a cardiac complication and prevent the appearance of a second event. Even though CR has proof to be efficient improving people’s health after a cardiac complication, there is a lack of information regarding the most suitable exercise training protocol, physiological benefits after a CR program and a tool for assessing all functional capacity components. PURPOSE: To determine the effect of a combined exercise training protocol on Cardiac Rehabilitation patients on functional capacity, psychological, and physiological variables. METHODS: Functional capacity (Senior Fitness Test, SFT), peak oxygen consumption (VO2peak) (6 minute walk test, 6MWT and/or ergospirometry), psychological parameter (Quality of Life Questionnaire, SF-12), and physiological variables (blood pressure, pulse oximetry, glycemia, and heart rate) were evaluated before (pre-test = session #1), during (post-test1 = session #18) and after (post-test 2 = session #36) 36 sessions of the combined exercise training protocol of the CR program. Thirty-six patients, nineteen women and seventeen men with cardiopathies were evaluated. RESULTS: Participants significantly improved both functional capacity and psychological parameters (Table 1). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the results presented in this study indicate that after a combined exercise training protocol on a Cardiac Rehabilitation program of 36 sessions over 9 weeks, there were statistically significant improvements in the functional capacity and psychological parameters of patients with cardiopathies. - Table 1.
