- W4387062107 abstract "In addition to significant morbidity and mortality attributed to the coronavirus infectious disease 19, many afflicted individuals experience “Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection” (PASC), a multi-system constellation of adverse symptoms persisting weeks beyond the initial infection. PURPOSE: To assess participant tolerability and feasibility of an 8-week, facility based (FB) and home-based (HB) exercise and cognitive training program including the use of a wrist-worn fitness tracker, in adults with PASC. METHODS: Participant engagement in the PASC intervention was determined by attendance at FB exercise and cognition training sessions and completion of an app-based HB exercise program, which were delivered once and three times per week, respectively. Additionally, adherence to wearing a wrist-worn fitness tracker throughout the duration of the intervention was recorded. The weekly FB individually tailored according to patient fitness level. The HB exercise program was designed to be completed at the participant’s convenience and consisted of a video playlist aimed at improving mobility, strength, and stability without the need for specialized equipment. Attendance for the FB sessions was taken, and compliance with the HB program was defined by the successful completion of the video playlist. Adherence to wearing the fitness tracker was assessed through use of a web-based dashboard monitored by study staff twice weekly through which participants were reminded to utilize the wearable if the data flow was interrupted. RESULTS: 10 participants had completed the intervention period at the time of data collection. Average number of FB sessions completed out of 8 was 6.4 (1.5) (80%). Average number of completed HB exercise sessions was 12 (7.8) (50%). 3 (30%) participants required intervention from study staff related to their wearable fitness tracker, resulting in 5 total reminders. The FB and HB exercise prescriptions were well tolerated apart from one associated adverse event that contributed to participant withdrawal. CONCLUSIONS: An individualized, 8-week exercise and cognitive training intervention is feasible in adults with PASC. Future research should identify determinants for adherence to both FB and HB programs as well as with wearable activity tracking devices in this population." @default.
