- W4387161831 abstract "Contamination of water due to organic and inorganic materials , heavy metals, and biological organisms have a worldwide impact and therefore is a cause of global concern. Thus, the need for clean water provision has become highly demanding. Several water purification techniques based on such as ion exchange, liquid distillation, active carbon adsorption, ultrafiltration (UF), reverse osmosis (RO), UV-filtration, deionization and use of water softeners for removal of heavy minerals as well as emerging pollutants from the contaminated water resources are available. However, these methods have their limitations such as high investment in equipment, high cost of operations and maintenance, high energy requirements, and large plant areas. This underlines the need for a rapid, efficient, technologically advanced, and environmentally friendly approach to the purification of water and wastewater treatment processes. Nanotechnology has shown promise in diverse areas, but lately, its implementation for water purification and wastewater treatment has evolved as a successful and fast developing area . Nanomaterials are designed for water disinfection, purification, and wastewater processes since they possess a large higher surface area, reactivity, great degree of flexibility, size-dependent characteristics, and affinity for specific pollutants . Among the nano-based approaches, the use of nanoadsorbents, nanomembranes, nanocatalysts and nanobioremediation have been successful in wastewater treatment., and . Nanotechnology has emerged to be an advanced, ecofriendly, and effective treatment method considering these aspects. In this book chapter, we have briefly presented the recent trends in the development of water purification and treatment technologies based on nanotechnology that are employed for safe reuse of wastewater, disinfection and decontamination of water." @default.
