- W4387203602 abstract "The run for finding new sources of energy has been accelerated because of the exhaustive exploration of fossil fuels and the severe environmental consequences it has at a global scale. Research on the merging of technologies for environment-friendly fuel production has brought to light the possibility of using microalgae found in waste stabilization ponds for effluent treatment as a raw source for biodiesel. However, there are still numerous barriers that make this approach and other microalgae-derived fuels difficult to exploit further, and these barriers are mostly associated with economic issues and the need for a long-term and solid investment in lab-scale studies that can actually be scaled up to the industrial reality. In these terms, herein is presented a discussion over the current perspectives of microalgae biomass usage for biofuel purposes, based on characteristics such as biochemical composition, culturing, harvesting, processing procedures, oil extraction, FAME characterization, and the ongoing economic and sociopolitical boundaries of this type of biomass." @default.
