- W4387262729 abstract "The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of standard 2D examination versus a single 3D volume acquired at first trimester screening ultrasound to assess fetal anatomy. Multicentre prospective study performed in ten tertiary centres, by experienced sonographers certified by Fetal Medicine Foundation. A standard protocol was agreed for 2D evaluation and 3D acquisition to assess 17 structures as listed in the international and Italian guidelines of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology. All women booked for nuchal translucency measurement between 11+0 and 13+6 and non-anomalous fetus were included. The evaluation of the fetal anatomy was performed on 2D planes, then the volumes were analysed on multiplanar view. The anatomical structures which could be imaged using each technique were listed for each case. 243 women were included in the study. All the 17 structures were seen in 155/243 fetuses (63.7%) at 2D and in 84/243 (34.5%) at 3D evaluation (p = 0.001). Comparing 2D and 3D visualisation, the rate of visualisation was as follows: cranial bone (100% vs. 99%; p = 0,9); intheremisferic falx (100% vs. 98,7%; p = 0,9); choroid-plexus-filled ventricles (100% vs. 95,4%; p = 0,9); posterior fossa (92% vs. 74%; p < 0.001); neck (94,2% vs. 87,2%; p < 0,001); orbits (93% vs. 85,6%; p < 0,001); nasal bone (93% vs. 88,8%; p < 0,001); profile (93,8 vs. 93,8; p < 0,001); spine (77,3% vs. 75,3%; p < 0,001); lung fields (99,5% vs. 96,7%; p = 0,94); cardiac axis to left (99,5% vs. 83,9%; p = 0,02); stomach (99,5% vs. 97,5%; p < 0,001); bladder (97,5% vs. 91,7%; p < 0,001); kidneys (68,7% vs. 61,3%; p < 0,001); abdominal wall (98,7% vs. 94,2%; p < 0,001); upper (99,5% vs. 99,5%; p < 0,001) and lower limbs (99,5% vs. 97,5%; p < 0,001). Our study demonstrates that a full assessment of the fetal anatomy can be performed more frequently using 2D compared to 3D." @default.
