- W4387263275 abstract "To identify the occurrence and determine the association of polycystic ovarian morphology to four detected endocrine disrupting chemicals: methylparaben, 2,4 dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (PPB 2,4), monobutyl phthalate (PBB Mono) and Bisphenol A (BPA) from urine samples of reproductive aged non-pregnant women. A total of 566 non-pregnant women, 18-49 years of age, were randomly administered a questionnaire survey about exposure to certain EDC-containing items, at the Outpatient Department. Transvaginal ultrasound and urine sample collection was done. Those detected with four EDCs were associated with polycystic ovaries by ultrasound using descriptive analyses, association tests and odds ratios. PCO was detected in 86 (15%) women while 480 (85%) were non-PCO by ultrasound. Phthalates were detected in 95%, parabens were noted in 33%. Also, dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and BPA were detected in 15% and 4% of women. Among women detected with EDCs in urine, there seems to have no significant association with PCO (all EDCs Chi square test p = >0.05). Women detected with Paraben (OR = 0.95) and BPA (OR = 0.51) in urine are less likely to be seen with ultrasound diagnosis of PCO. In contrast, those with PPB 2,4 (OR= 1.1) and PBB Mono (OR = 1.42) detected in urine have a higher probability of detection of PCO compared to those without PCO. All 4 EDCs were detected in the urine of some non-pregnant women with PCO, with the highest detection of phthalates. Ultrasound diagnosis of PCO is higher in those with PBB mono and PPB 2,4. Other EDC biochemical tests may be worth investigating to determine detection and association of PCO by ultrasound." @default.
