- W4387263727 abstract "Intravenous leiomyomatosis (IVL) is a rare benign smooth muscle tumour that can occur in the veins, particularly in the pelvic region. Accurate diagnosis of IVL is crucial for appropriate management and treatment. Ultrasonography is a non-invasive and widely available imaging modality that has been shown to be useful in the diagnosis of IVL. This research provides a comprehensive review of the current literature on the role of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of IVL. In this report, we describe a complex and unusual case of IVL in a female patient presenting with a mass in the right atrium. Echocardiography revealed a lengthy, cord-like mass with irregular echo patterns. The results of coronary computed tomography (CT) indicated a large, low-density mass occupying the majority of the right atrial space, extending into both pulmonary arteries. Furthermore, vascular ultrasound revealed a mixed echo mass that had infiltrated the inferior vena cava in a rope-like manner. The patient underwent surgical intervention, during which the tumour was completely removed. The review covers the various ultrasonographic features of IVL, including its appearance on gray-scale ultrasound, colour Doppler ultrasound, and contrast-enhanced ultrasound. Additionally, the review discusses the diagnostic accuracy and limitations of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of IVL, as well as the potential for ultrasound to be used as a screening tool for high-risk populations. Overall, this research provides a comprehensive analysis of the role of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of IVL, highlighting its potential as a useful tool in the management and treatment of this rare but clinically significant condition." @default.
