- W4387263805 abstract "To assess importance of ultrasound diagnosis, antenatal fetal surveillance and postnatal outcome of lymphangiomas detected in various locations. We report 5 consecutive cases of cystic lymphangiomas in a single centre presenting between second and third trimester. These cases were identified by their septate cystic mass with no blood flow on gray-scale and colour Doppler. These patients were followed up antenatally on a two-weekly interval for monitoring the volume of the mass and for signs of fetal hydrops. These cases were also followed up postnatally. There were 5 cases one each of abdominolumbar, thoracic, cervical, face and back lymphangioma. Case with cystic lymphangioma of the back opted for termination. Cases with face lymphangioma resolved postnatally without any treatment whereas the cases with cervical, thoracic and abdominolumbar lymphangiomas underwent 1-2 sessions of sclerotherapy. Fetal lymphangiomas are benign hamartomatous rare lymphatic system tumours occurring in 1 in every 6,000 livebirths which develop where lymphatic vessels are located. The initial size of the lymphangioma at the time of diagnosis does not determine the postnatal outcome or need for intervention. Adequate antenatal and postnatal management by a multidisciplinary team is necessary to provide good outcome. It is the course of the lymphangiomas during pregnancy and their mass effect on surrounding structures which are more significant determinants of postnatal outcome.
