• W4387396574 abstract "This retrospective study aimed to investigate the utilization of elective oocyte cryopreservation (EOC) in black patients at a private fertility center with multiple locations in the Chicago, Illinois area. The study involved a chart review of patients who underwent EOC. 939 cycles from 2019 to 2022 were reviewed. The demographic characteristics of each patient were analyzed using chi-square analysis, and a P-value of <0.05 was used to determine statistical significance. Patients who self-reported their ethnicity and lived in the Chicago area were included in the study. Majority of patients underwent one cycle. Mean ovarian reserve testing was similar across centers (AMH and AFC) and mean age was 36. Patients' utilization of EOC for fertility preservation varied among the different ethnicities. The proportion of white patients 41.5%,was significantly higher than the population of white women in Chicago-33.1%. The Asian population utilized egg freezing more at a rate of 9.9% vs their population of 6.8%. However both the black and hispanic population had an underutilization of EOC. 4.6% of Hispanics underwent EOC in these clinics compared to the population of 28.7%. Lastly, the proportion of black women was lower (7% vs. 29.2%, p<0.05). Few cycles were performed in other ethnic groups including Native Hawaiian and American Indians. This study highlights the disparities in access to fertility care in black and hispanic patients even in an area where the black and Hispanic population is approximately 30% and most people have insurance coverage.These findings suggest a need for increased education and outreach efforts to ensure that all women, regardless of race, have access to and awareness of fertility preservation options. Addressing these disparities is critical for promoting reproductive health equity and improving health outcomes for black women in Illinois and in the USA in general." @default.
