- W4387418080 abstract "Water covers almost three-fourths of the earth's surface, making it the most important natural resource for life. Currently, only 30% of the world's freshwater supply can meet the needs of a growing population due to congested human and animal populations. Over 17% of the world's population lives on 2.3% of the world's land area. In addition, it holds 4% of the world's freshwater resources. Additionally, to the drastic reduction in land availability per capita, there is also a drastic reduction in water availability per capita. A major challenge facing the authorities in India when it comes to water management and administration is the amount of investment necessary to set up initiatives in rural areas. Availability and utilization of electricity is the second hurdle that needs to be overcome along with reduced water supplies per capita, exploitation of groundwater in many areas, and deteriorating quality of surface water. Water management in India occurs mostly in rural communities, organized in villages, which are also the smallest viable social units in the rural milieu. As a result of improving the water management practices in these areas, it is possible to increase the productivity and sustainability of these areas through various water management strategies that are technically and economically viable, as well as socially and politically acceptable." @default.
