- W4387436021 abstract "Endoscopic lacrimal surgery is increasingly gaining a foothold in the routine armamentarium of a lacrimal surgeon. A well-designed operating room with well-trained assistants is as vital as the instruments for an overall great setup [1–3]. The principal requirement is a sound endoscopy system, preferably a high-definition one for desirable surgical experiences [1–7]. For transnasal endoscopic lacrimal surgery, limited functional endoscopic sinus surgery and specific lacrimal surgical sets are required. These should include a set of 4 mm and 2.7 mm telescopes with variable angles, a fiber optic light probe to guide to the position of the lacrimal sac, a 15 blade on a long, slim handle to provide adequate length for access within the nose, a Freer’s elevator for elevating the mucosal flaps, a straight and 45° up-turned Blakesley forceps for grasping bony and mucosal fragments, a microdebrider with a 4 mm Trucut blade for mucosal trimming and 2.5 mm diamond burr for bone removal, a standard sinus suction, a keratome for opening the lacrimal sac, and silicone lacrimal tubes if intubation is planned. A sound endoscopy system should also have the advantage of connecting several specialized telescopes like the dacryoendoscope, continuously variable telescopes, and three-dimensional endoscopes [5–7]. This minimizes the setup time and quickly shifts seamlessly from one mode to another based on the intraoperative requirements." @default.
