- W4387446645 abstract "In this work, we investigate the human’s adaptation and habituation to thermal and electric pain stimuli, focusing on the differences between female and male subjects. We evaluate two pain recognition scenarios, no pain vs. the lowest pain level and no pain vs. the highest pain level. In addition, the experiments are conducted in combination with two types of stimuli durations, short-term and long-term, leading to eight different tasks. Note that in this work, we do not aim to propose any new classification approach. Based on our results, we are able to observe the adaptation and habituation of female subjects to both thermal and electric stimuli over time for certain physiological signals. However, the long-term stimuli have a length of 60 s which might limit the validity of these observations with respect to longer-term pain, such as chronic pain. Moreover, we observe that in particular cases, using only data specific to female or male subjects might be beneficial for the corresponding classification performance." @default.
