- W4387477072 abstract "ObjectiveWe aimed to develop and validate a suitable scale for measuring the fertility information support level in reproductive-aged patients with breast cancer.MethodsWe used an exploratory mixed methods approach that categorizing the study into two phases: scale development and validation. In phase 1, initial entries were identified using literature search and qualitative interviews; in phase 2, a cross-sectional survey was conducted among 468 reproductive-aged patients with breast cancer to assess the scale's validity and reliability. The scale items were evaluated and screened using item analysis, and the items' validity and reliability were assessed using Cronbach's ɑ coefficient, retest reliability, content validity, structural validity, and convergent validity.ResultsThe final scale comprised 17 items, and exploratory factor analysis revealed three common dimensions with internal consistency of 0.894, 0.816, and 0.869. The scale's overall internal consistency was 0.908, whereas the retest reliability Pearson correlation coefficient was 0.937, indicating good stability and reliability. The construct validity of the scale was also good (χ2=198.606, df=113, χ2/df=1.758, root mean square of approximation error=0.055, goodness-of-fit index=0.917, comparative fit index=0.979, null fitting index=0.95, and incremental fitting index=0.979).ConclusionsOur fertility information support scale for reproductive-aged patients with breast cancer has acceptable psychometric properties. It can be used to measure the fertility information support level among such patients, helping the medical staff alleviate the fertility concerns of patients and implement individualized fertility information support programs. However, the applicability of this scale in patients from different social or cultural backgrounds should be further investigated.
