- W4387529407 abstract "Nanosponges have evolved as state-of-the-art adsorbents for environmental remediation owing to their porous nature, high surface area, and cross-linked three-dimensional network. Nanosponges (NSs) can be created by combining or cross-linking cyclodextrin with carbonyl or dicarboxylate, and these evolve in a variety of shapes and sizes. A variety of nanosponges that are available today are designed and formulated depending on the polymer utilized and its concentration, which finally determines their method of synthesis. This chapter discusses the assorted components required for the synthesis of nanosponges and further expounds the ‘general methods’ that are deployed for the synthesis of various types of nanosponges such as the solvent method, ultrasound-assisted method, melt method, bubble electrospinning, synthesis via the use of microwave radiation from hyper-crosslinked β-cyclodextrin, emulsion solvent diffusion method, and the Quasi emulsion solvent method. Finally, the chapter highlights the protocols for the functionalization of β-cyclodextrin-based nano sponges that are generally employed for environmental remediation." @default.
