- W4387572411 abstract "The present paper aims to mark the current status of knowledge regarding the area of the Town of Sozopol (ancient Apollonia Pontica) and its future research. The combination of geological and geomorphological data with the acquired archaeological and historical information can restore the ancient landscape of the study area. The research is focused on the landscape of Sozopol and its surroundings, due to it being among the most important areas in the history of the Western Black Sea. A mechanism for the formation of the tombola between the Skamni Peninsula and the mainland is proposed, as well as a relative dating of its formation. All of this is the result of the successful use of geological, geomorphological and archaeological information, taking into account the age of archaeological sites. Multidisciplinary investigation of ancient archaeological sites is a key research field for systematic investigation. The research used a number of methods characteristic of the Earth sciences as well as the humanities. The knowledge with regards to the evolution of the historical topography of Apollonia Pontica as well as the main features of the ancient environment of the city and its surroundings, is still limited. The article offers options for future scientific perspectives for more detailed and precise restoration of the archaeological landscapes in the study area." @default.
